The nine allied offices and programs of the Academic Residential and Research Initiates (ARRI) and Undergraduate Research and Distinguished Scholarships (URDS) units offer enterprise-wide, wrap-around support to undergraduates and recent alumni exploring and participating in high-impact practices (HIPs) including undergraduate research, distinguished scholarships, learning communities, experiential education, and the residential curricular-based First-Year Experience.
Mission
The centralized offices of URDS and ARRI share the equity-centered mission of serving students from all schools and colleges to access the full resources and benefits of a liberal arts and sciences research university and navigate the hidden curriculum and structural barriers that have disproportionately impacted traditionally underserved students in these areas of undergraduate education.
Programs
The interdivisional academic programs and strategic partnerships jointly overseen by URDS and ARRI enable the unique integration of high-impact practices into the residential first-year experience and academic-based first-year live-on requirement adopted in 2017 through the Office of the Provost as an element of core education. The partnership between the Division of Undergraduate Education and Student Success and University Housing and Residence Life began in 2005 and has grown to include over 130 academic partners from all schools and colleges.
