Residential Initiatives
The Academic Residential and Research Initiatives unit oversees the partnerships and programs that lead the first-year residential curricular experience for students at UO. The initiatives include the network of Academic Residential Communities (ARCs) and Residential Communities, the Faculty-in-Residence and Faculty Fellows cohorts, the Academic Success Hub, and residential tutoring and advising. These programs support the academic rationale for UO’s first-year live-on requirement.

Partner with Us
Our residential initiatives encourage learning, foster a sense of belonging, and reduce barriers between faculty and students.
There are several ways faculty members can become involved in our community, engage with students outside a classroom setting, and learn more about the student experience at UO.
Become a Faculty in the Hall
University Housing is home to two programs that bring faculty into the residence halls, the ‘Faculty in Residence’ program, and the ‘Faculty Fellows’ program. Both programs aim to humanize faculty and reduce the barriers between students and faculty.

Start an ARC or Residential Community
Academic Residential Communities (ARCs) are faculty-led programs of curricular and co-curricular learning located in the Residence Halls. Faculty members can propose residential communities tied to a specific academic field, or they can be interdisciplinary or identity-based.
Join the ARC Council
The Academic Residential Community (ARC) Council serves as an advisory board with a focus on the integration and alignment of academic residential communities and programs with the UO’s student success priorities.
