Undergraduate Research Small Grant

Applications will be considered on a first-come, first served basis.
Number of Awards: 4 per academic year
Funding Amount: Up to $500 maximum
 

Eligibility Criteria and Terms of Award
You are eligible for a CURE award regardless of immigration status and FAFSA eligibility status.

  • Funds will be provided once during an undergraduate student's academic career at UO.
  • Applicant must be enrolled full-time in a UO undergraduate degree-granting program, maintain good academic standing (GPA>2.00), and be enrolled during the term(s) when funds are used.
  • Applicant must have a UO faculty member as a mentor for the research or creative work.
  • The faculty mentor must be Tenure Track Faculty or Career Faculty with an FTE of .50 or above.
  • Recipient must collaborate with their academic department budget officers to ensure compliance with UO financial policies.

Terms of Grant Support
A small grant is provided to assist with costs associated with the research, helping to cover expenses that ensure projects can be completed effectively. This funding supports undergraduate research students in managing unanticipated costs related to research and experiential learning. It can serve as supplemental funding for existing awards. Examples of appropriate funding requests:

  • Unexpected cost increases related to research or associated with research-related experiential learning opportunity.
  • Unanticipated travel cost directly related to research project.
  • Supplemental support for students who are not eligible for federal funding resources.
  • As an additional source of funding to other research awards to fulfill the budget need to conduct or complete research

Requirements and Receipt of the Award

Acknowledgement

  • Acknowledge CURE (Center for Undergraduate Research and Engagement) in all work resulting from the research.
  • Notify CURE (uocure@uoregon.edu) of any publication or conference presentation that is associated with your research project

  • Two brief statements
    • A one-page statement that includes the following information. Save the document, in PDF format, with your FirstName_LastName, as the file name. Also include your first and last name and project title within the document Header:
      • Introduction and goals - provide a brief introduction and state your project goals, including any hypotheses or overarching objectives
      • Approach and methodology- describe your proposed activities, implementation plan, timeline, and the methods you will use to asses your project's success
      • Financial rationale- detail how funding will support the project needs
      • Anticipated outcomes- highlight how you you will define and measure the outcomes of your project
      • Citation and references - include a minimum of 2 to 3 citations or references relevant to your project (this section will not count towards the one-page limit)
    • A 250 to 300 word Academic Path and Research Journey statement. Save file, in PDF format, with your FirstName_LastName, as well as include your first and last name within the document Header.
      • Please share an experience where adversity shaped you as a person, thinker, researcher, scholar, advocate, or activist. Experiences may include structural or institutional barriers, a moral dilemma, interpersonal challenge, or personal hardship. Please only share what you are comfortable conveying with the CURE review committee. Application materials are confidential and will only be reviewed by CURE.
