The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is a publicly funded independent organization of higher education institutions in Germany. The DAAD supports more than 100,000 German and international students and researchers around the globe each year. It also promotes internationalization efforts at German universities, helps developing countries build their own systems of higher education, and supports German Studies and German language programs abroad.
RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) is a summer internship program for undergraduate students from the United States, Canada and the UK in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and engineering. RISE offers unique opportunities for Bachelor students to work with research groups at universities and top research institutions across Germany for a period of 2 to 3 months during the summer.
Eligibility:
- US and Canadian Citizens. Non-U.S./Canadian citizens can visit the DAAD’s Scholarship Database and select the country of citizenship to browse eligible grants and scholarships
- Open to all academic fields
- Undergraduate (must be enrolled full-time when applying) or graduate student
- Applicants residing in Germany over 15 months at the application deadline are ineligible
- RISE research internship recipients must return to a full-time enrollment status at their home university after the experience. Knowledge of German is not required
Award Highlights:
- Study scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors and graduate students for a full master’s degree program study at a German university. The duration is up to 24 months
- RISE internships for undergraduate students majoring in science and engineering to work with German doctoral students at German universities and institutes. “What applicants need to know section” provides additional information about the internships
